Equipment Rental

Renting of NFG Equipment

The Guild has a collection of equipment that can be rented; such as spinning wheels, dye pots, ball winders, looms, drum and hand carders, bobbin winders and the like. To rent equipment you must sign it out of the rental book located on the table in the library. The rental book has instructions on what deposit is required for each piece of equipment and what the charge is for each.  Access to specialized equipment is a valued benefit of your Northern Fibres Guild membership.  Our rental rates are very low to encourage use of the equipment. Please treat the equipment with care, and bring any maintenance needs to the attention of the equipment coordinator.

Rental Policy

  1. Only current Northern Fibres Guild members may rent equipment.
  2. There is a 3-month waiting period before new members may rent equipment.
  3. Most equipment except the pieces below can be
    rented without a separate deposit
  • Payments for at least one month rental needs to be made before the equipment can be taken home, via E-transfer, cheque or cash
  • If the person expects a rental period for longer than a month, they should pay the full rental amount up front before taking
    the equipment
  • The equipment manager should be present when the equipment is rented or
returned. This can be done during regular monthly meetings or by appointment with the equipment manager
*Specific exceptions are made for the “Baby Wolf” floor loom and the two Schacht spinning wheels, which are the most valuable pieces of equipment the NFG owns
  •  A deposit is required before this equipment can be rented and taken home
  • The deposit amount is as listed in the rental book. The deposit can be given in cash or cheque. The equipment manager keeps the cheque or cash until the equipment is returned. If the equipment is in good condition, the entire deposit amount will be returned.
  • The equipment manager must be present when the piece of equipment is rented and returned. This can be done at regular meetings or by appointment.
  • If you are renting or returning other equipment outside of the regular meeting, please contact the equipment manager with your rental info.

Rental Fees

  1. All rentals are monthly. Rental rates can be found here.
  2. A deposit is only required for the Baby Wolf loom and the 2 Schact Spinning Wheels. The amount is based on approximately 10% of the replacement value of the equipment.
  3. All deposits should be by cheque. The cheque will not be cashed, and returned when the equipment is returned in good working order.
  4. First month’s rental (minimum) is due at the time of renting. Payment may be by cash or cheque or e-transfer.
